ITK believes the entire community benefits from the integration of children with special medical needs and their families.
Children with special medical needs often face social isolation as their disease or condition is made the center of their identity. ITK helps families and communities to shift the center of attention away from the disease and toward the gifts that children have to offer.
ITK’s Healing Programs model a community of equality and acceptance. Families and community participants become aware of complementary and integrative healing therapies and their benefits. All members of the ITK Community contribute to the reciprocal model, “Health-Caring,” allowing everyone to actively participate in the healing process.
Youth and community participants receive education on person first language and learn specific tools for how to interact in fun and engaging ways with kids of all abilities.
ITK community participants display awareness, knowledge and acceptance that enables them to lead by example and create social change.
