Healing Moments is a segment we’ve created to share moments of healing and wellness that you can incorporate in your everyday life. Today’s healing moment is with Jimmy Yen or the ACU Sensei as he’s known on social media. He’s a widely celebrated traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, entrepreneur, and innovator. In today’s healing moment, Jimmy walks through a quick restorative acupressure technique that can be used specifically to alleviate neck and lower back pain through a practice that is super simple to learn. Jimmy Yen Thank you, Shay. I am super excited to be here and hopefully impart some wisdom that I’ve accumulated over the years.

Shay Fantastic. I know the first topic we’re going to start with is restorative acupressure, specifically with the use and the idea of how that can be applied for specific types of pain or stress in the body. So I would love to learn a little bit more about restorative acupressure.

Jimmy Awesome. And so it’s something I call QRA. So quick restorative acupressure, it’s actually a technique acupressure technique. It’s a little different from those of you who have experienced acupressure before. This one’s a little different and I’ll be demonstrating how it’s different, but it’s really focused on stimulating specific neurological areas of the body to stimulate the brain, to tell the brain “Hey, brain, you need to move more blood to a specific area of the body” and by moving more blood to that area, then you’re basically more blood means more nutrition to that area. And so if we’re talking about, hey, if we have some pain or something like neck pain or so forth, if we move more blood and nutrition to that specific area, then that’s going to cause more, I would say the onset of healing. And a lot of times that healing starts instantaneously and from the person’s perspective, they feel pretty much instant relief. So I’m happy to go over some of those QRA acupressure techniques today.

Shay That would be great! and as you do, because we have both video and audio viewers and listeners, just explain what you’re doing for the listening audience at the same time.

Jimmy Awesome. Okay. So the viewing audience, you’re going to be able to see the explanation a little better, but I’ll do my best to explain. So we’ll start with pain, chronic pain, many people have it and one of the biggest pains is not in the rear. One of the biggest pains is in the neck. A lot of times when people have a lot of stress, whether it’s people going through cancer treatments or the family members taking care of their sick ones, there’s a lot of stress in which creates a lot of neck pain. So here’s one QR, a quick restorative acupressure technique for your neck. And so this is called if we get our fist. If you imagine the movie Wolverine, he’s got these
claws that go through his knuckles, so to speak. So if you imagine for the viewers, you’ll be able to see my demonstration got some markers.

So imagine if these are Wolverine’s claws when he comes out. So again, they’re coming out in between the knuckles. So that’s where you’re going to find, you’re going to find the knuckles. So if you imagine making a fist and you’re going to find the top knuckles on the fist, and you’re going to go in between those knuckles, there’s like a little dent, a little valley, right? Those areas, you’re going to press around those areas and you’re going to find where’s a sensitive spot. So let’s say between my second finger and my third finger, again, I’m in the knuckle area. If you find and press around and you find a really tender spot, you find that tender spot and you’ll know it because it will be like owie. So when you find that, keep your finger there. Now, before you press down, this is what I want you to do.

I want you to rotate your neck left and right side to side, and you’re going to feel that pain, your neck pain. So you’re going to test it out. So now you have your hand, your finger on the owie spot. Now you’re going to dig in to that owie spot for 10 seconds. Yes, it’s going to hurt okay. So you’re going to push down really hard and you’re going to count to 10, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, right. And then after you do that, you’re going to release it, release the pressure, and then you’re going to move your neck around again, right. Here’s the thing, there’s a reason why it’s called quick, quick restorative acupressure, because after you release, you should feel an instant decrease in your pain if you found the right neurological spot, a lot of times the pain will reduce by 90% or maybe it might even go away temporarily.

So now if it doesn’t go away, then that means you need to find another owie spot. So again, look at your knuckles, go through your knuckles and press in between the knuckles, the dent in between your knuckles, right. And you’re going to find all around your knuckles all around. You’re going to find this spot and when you find another owie spot, you’re going to press on that for 10 seconds and then move your neck again. Again, we’re looking for quick relief, okay? Now this will provide quick relief, but I do want to have a disclaimer. It’s not going to take your neck pain away completely, right? But if you do this every day, you’ll start to notice that your neck pain starts to reduce the muscles in your shoulders start to relax. And so overall, you’ll have more mobility of your neck. And why does this work? Because this part of your hand, if we imagine this part of your knuckles, right? So your knuckle part, this part we call images, it images the bones in your neck, your spine, right? And this part is the neck. If we go down more towards the wrist, that image is your lower back. So if you have lower back, lower back pain, you would apply the same strategy you would push around your wrist. Doesn’t matter if it’s the inside or outside, just push all around. You can grip it with your other hand, your thumb, and your index, and you’re just going to push all around your wrist until you find that owie spot. And when you find that owie spot again, move now, you’d be moving your lower back, you’d be doing the chacha, right. And so see if your lower back pain starts to loosen up and starts to decrease again, if it doesn’t, you got to find another owie spot, right? Here’s the beauty of this. If it doesn’t work on your left hand, God gave us two hands. So you can try it on your other hand and start pushing on the other hand, and that should decrease your neck pain and your back pain.
